Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses (Action 1A) and Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorates (Action 1B) constitute the central component around which Erasmus Mundus is built. They are high-quality Masters and/or Doctoral level programmes offered by a consortium of higher education institutions in at least three different EU and/or Third countries. The courses must foresee a study period in at least two of the three institutions and lead to the award of a recognised double, multiple or joint degree.
The applications are submitted to the Education, Audio-visual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). They have to meet the requirements set in the Guide for Applicants. The information about future Calls for proposals can be found here.
List of previously selected EM Courses:
Starting from 2009, higher education institutions from Serbia can participate in the consortia for establishing joint EM Master/ Doctoral programmes.
In the April 2009 Call for proposals one of the selected EM master programmes has for its partner a higher education institution from Serbia. This is AstroMundus, 2-years Erasmus Mundus Masters Course in Astronomy and Astrophysics offered by a consortium of 5 partner universities in 4 different countries: Austria, Italy, Germany, and Serbia (University of Belgrade, Faculty of Mathematics).
Higher education institutions can take part in Erasmus Mundus Partnerships (former External Cooperation Windows) which supports the establishment of cooperation between EU HEIs and HEIs from targeted Third Countries with the objective of organising and implementing structured individual mobility arrangements. Through these projects scholarships of various lengths (1 month for staff , and 6, 10, 20 to 22 months for students) are awarded for the EU and Third-Country individuals (students, scholars, researchers, professionals) - depending on the priorities defined for the Third Country concerned, the level of studies or the particular arrangements agreed within the project consortium.
Three such projects are currently being implemented with participation of the institutions from Serbia. These are:
Basileus, JoinEU SEE and STEM
In Basileus project partner universities from Serbia are: University of Belgrade, University of Novi Sad, University of Kragujevac and University of Niš.
In JoinEU SEE project these are University of Belgrade and University of Novi Sad.

Erasmus Mundus also supports projects aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of, and the interest in, European higher education. It supports activities that improve the profile, the visibility and the accessibility of European higher education as well as issues crucial to the internationalisation of higher education, such as the mutual recognition of qualifications with third countries. Higher education institutions and other public and private organisations active in the field of higher education play a key role in this action.
Activities can be implemented by mixed networks of organisations active in the field of higher education composed of at least 3 participating organisations from EU countries and 2 from Third Countries.
The information about future Calls for proposals can be found here.
In addition to HE institutions, some other bodies – public and private, active in the field of education and research, can take part in Erasmus Mundus projects. e.g.
